Score by criterion

The dark mark on each bar is the average of the 12 systems in this ranking. Criteria with higher weight pull the overall score more.

Matters and deadlinesweight 1.4×
8.6

Matter intake, case status, and deadline or court-rules calendaring without a parallel spreadsheet.

Fees and billingweight 1.2×
8.4

Time, invoices, trust or client accounting, and collections in the same system as the matter — not a parallel bookkeeping tool.

Relationship and intakeweight 1.1×
7.6

Client portal, post-engagement updates, and a native path from lead to hired matter — not only a “won” stage.

Native messagingweight 0.8×
3.2

Native SMS or messaging inbox on the matter or contact card, with team history. WhatsApp Business API also counts. Portal-only chat and marketplace apps do not.

Price and transparencyweight 0.9×
6.8

Public plan in USD or GBP, trial, and what sits outside the monthly fee. Mandatory add-ons for day-to-day work lower the score.

Learning curveweight 0.8×
6.4

English UI, matter and billing vocabulary, and time until a fee earner can work without a long implementation project.

Editorial analysis

Osprey Approach in detail

Osprey Approach is one of the few UK legal vendors that publishes licence prices. Advanced at £110 and Premium at £140 (minimum three licences, excl. VAT) make total cost of ownership easier to model than LEAP’s quote path — if you accept the term length.

Who it is for

Established UK SME firms that want case, accounts, and enquiry tools with telephone support — not US solos shopping a $49 seat.

What drives the score

Matters and fees strong. Price mid — transparent GBP but contract and minimum seats. Messaging stays low without a clear native two-way SMS inbox. Mobile app flag false without a clear first-party app on the price plans page.

How we read the sources

Frequently asked questions

Is the client portal native on every plan?

Premium includes the portal. Advanced lists it as a £10 per paying licence/month add-on. We still mark `portal_cliente` true because Osprey ships a vendor portal — buyers on Advanced must budget the add-on.

Why is learning curve only mid?

Osprey is a full UK practice suite with implementation, training design sessions, and a multi-year agreement — not a same-afternoon SaaS signup like lighter US CRMs.
