Worth it for your operation?

Pros

  • Permanent free CRM (not a trial) with contacts, deals, and pipelines
  • Huge ecosystem, docs, and integrations if you already live in HubSpot
  • Marketing and service hubs scale when the installer grows a brand team
  • Easy onboarding for reps who sold in other industries

Watch-outs

  • No solar vocabulary (kW, shade, PTO, TPO) in the product
  • Proposal and financing for solar require other tools
  • WhatsApp is not a native solar inbox on the free CRM — channels/marketplace do not count here
  • Free tier limits (users/contacts) push growing teams onto paid seats fast

2.0

Quote and, when it exists, pre-approve solar loans, leases, or PPAs without retyping the homeowner in another portal.

5.5

Installed systems, service tickets, and a clean handoff from sales into install / O&M without an orphan spreadsheet.

Native messagingweight 0.9×
3.5

Public plan, currency, trial, and whether you can start without a vendor sales call.

Learning curveweight 0.8×

Editorial analysis

HubSpot CRM in detail

HubSpot is the CRM a marketing director brings from SaaS. The free CRM is permanent, well documented, and excellent at contacts and deals. Nothing in the product knows what a shade report is.

Who it is for

Solar companies that already standardized on HubSpot for inbound and do not want a second system of record — accepting that design and lenders live next door. New installers shopping “solar CRM” should not mistake HubSpot’s free tier for a solar stack.

What drives the score

Price and learning curve are high. Proposal and financing are intentionally low. Messaging stays low on this SKU — HubSpot Conversations/SMS channels are not the free CRM inbox.

How we read the sources

Based on HubSpot’s CRM product and free-tools pricing pages.

Frequently asked questions

Can HubSpot replace OpenSolar or Enerflo?

As a pipeline and marketing database, yes. As a solar sales system, no — you will still design, quote finance, and track PTO somewhere else. That is why it sits near the bottom of this ranking on purpose.

Why is the price score so high?

A permanent $0 CRM plan is real and public. The score rewards transparency and the free floor — not the total cost of Sales Hub Professional once you scale.
