Worth it for your operation?

Pros

  • Visual pipeline and automations among the best in general CRM
  • Large marketplace for e-sign and messaging apps
  • Fast to learn for producers from other industries
  • Works when the book already lives in Epic, EZLynx, or HawkSoft

Watch-outs

  • Zero native policy/commission/quoting product shape
  • No permanent free plan — trial then paid USD seats
  • WhatsApp depends on marketplace apps (feature stays false)
  • Not a substitute for agency management

Score by criterion

The dark mark on each bar is the average of the 12 systems in this ranking. Criteria with higher weight pull the overall score more.

Policies and book of businessweight 1.4×
2.2

Policy records — number, coverage, carrier, and status — without a parallel spreadsheet or a second system of record.

Commissions and carrier moneyweight 1.2×
1.6

Commission tracking, splits, or carrier-statement reconciliation in the same product as the policy — not a sibling SKU or a spreadsheet.

Renewals and retentionweight 1.1×
4.2

Renewal workflow, alerts, and retention on the in-force book — not only a “won” stage or a new-business funnel.

Native messagingweight 0.9×
3.5

Native SMS or messaging inbox on the client or policy card, with team history. WhatsApp Business API also counts. Portal-only chat and marketplace apps do not.

Price and transparencyweight 0.8×
6.4

Public plan in USD, trial, and what sits outside the monthly fee. Mandatory add-ons for day-to-day AMS work lower the score.

Learning curveweight 0.8×
7.6

English UI, policy and commission vocabulary, and time until a producer or CSR can work without a months-long implementation project.

What ships natively

We only mark “yes” when the feature is part of the product — marketplace integrations or third-party apps do not count.

  • No

    Policy book of business

Policy records — number, coverage, carrier, and status — live in the product, not only in a connected AMS

  • No

    Commissions & carrier money

Commission tracking, splits, or carrier-statement reconciliation in the product under review, not a sibling SKU

  • No

    Renewals & retention

Renewal workflow, alerts, or retention on the in-force book — not only a “won” stage

  • No

    Multi-carrier quoting

Multi-carrier or comparative quoting inside the product, not a rater sold next door or a portal you rekey

  • No

    Insurance compliance

Insurance-specific compliance in the product — Scope of Appointment, E&O documentation, licenses, or HIPAA tooling for health books

  • No

    Native messaging

Native SMS or messaging inbox on the lead/contact/policy card (history preserved). WhatsApp Business API also counts. Marketplace apps, Zapier, browser extensions, website chat buttons, and sibling-SKU modules do not

    Visual sales pipeline

  • Yes

    Vendor mobile app

App published by the vendor itself

Editorial analysis

Pipedrive in detail

Pipedrive is the CRM a sales director brings from another sector. The pipeline is excellent. Nothing in the product knows what a policy number is.

Who it is for

Agencies that already bought an AMS and only need a deal board for marketing leads — or teams asking “should we just use a normal CRM?” The ranking answer is in the scores.

What drives the score

Only general pipeline strengths help. Policies, commissions, quoting stay low on purpose.

How we read the sources

Based on pipedrive.com and the public pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Can Pipedrive replace HawkSoft or AgencyBloc?

As a BD funnel, yes. As agency operations with policies and commissions, no. Keep the AMS as system of record.

Why isn’t marketplace WhatsApp native?

Same rule as everywhere on bestCRM: marketplace modules do not count as a native inbox on the client or policy record.
