Worth it for your operation?
Pros
- Visual pipeline and automations among the most mature in general CRM
- Large marketplace (email, proposals, WhatsApp apps, Zapier)
- Fast to learn if your team already sold in another industry
- Works when the installer already owns a separate design/proposal tool
Watch-outs
- Zero solar vocabulary in the core product
- No permanent free plan — trial then paid USD seats
- WhatsApp and solar proposals depend on marketplace apps (feature flags stay false)
- Post-install monitoring is out of scope
Score by criterion
The dark mark on each bar is the average of the 11 CRMs in this ranking. Criteria with higher weight pull the overall score more.
PV sizing, shading, production estimates, and a customer-ready proposal or PDF without a parallel spreadsheet.
Quote and, when it exists, pre-approve solar loans, leases, or PPAs without retyping the homeowner in another portal.
Installed systems, service tickets, and a clean handoff from sales into install / O&M without an orphan spreadsheet.
Native SMS or messaging inbox on the lead card, with team history. WhatsApp Business API also counts. Marketplace apps, extensions, and website buttons do not.
Public plan, currency, trial, and whether you can start without a vendor sales call.
English UI, solar vocabulary (kW, shade, PTO, TPO), and time to the first usable proposal.

Editorial analysis
Pipedrive in detail
Pipedrive is the CRM a sales director brings from another sector. The pipeline is excellent. The currency is USD. Nothing in the product knows what a kilowatt is.
Who it is for
Installers who already bought OpenSolar or Aurora for proposals and only need a deal board — or teams comparing “should we just use a normal CRM?” The ranking answer is visible in the scores.
What drives the score
Only funil is truly on-mission. Proposal and financing stay low on purpose. Price is mid (clear paid plans, no permanent free tier). Messaging stays low — marketplace WhatsApp/SMS without a native inbox flag.
How we read the sources
Based on pipedrive.com and the public pricing page.
Frequently asked questions
Can Pipedrive replace Aurora or OpenSolar?
As a funnel, yes. As a solar operation, no. You will keep sizing and financing somewhere else — and field reps will keep two systems.
Why isn’t marketplace WhatsApp marked native?
Same rule as everywhere on bestCRM: browser apps and marketplace modules do not count as a native WhatsApp inbox on the lead. It can work; it is not the same product shape as a vertical solar chat CRM.
