- Huge docs and integration ecosystem
Watch-outs

Score by criterion
The dark mark on each bar is the average of the 8 CRMs and systems in this ranking. Criteria with higher weight pull the overall score more.
Inquiry-to-enroll pipeline — campus visit, application, review, and decision — without a parallel spreadsheet.
Contracts, deposits, tuition plans, or student-account collections in the same product — not only a “won” stage.
Student success, attrition risk, or re-enrollment for current families — not only prospecting new applicants.
Native SMS or messaging inbox on the candidate or family record, with team history. WhatsApp Business API also counts. Email-only, portal-only, and school apps do not.
Public plan in USD, trial, and what sits outside the annual license. Opaque institutional quotes lower the score.
English UI, admissions vocabulary, and time until staff can work without a long implementation project.

Editorial analysis
HubSpot CRM in detail
HubSpot is the CRM a marketing director brings from SaaS. The free CRM is permanent and excellent at contacts. Nothing in the product is an admissions application or a tuition contract.
Who it is for
Course businesses and small enrollment marketing teams that already live in HubSpot — accepting that applications and billing sit next door. A college admissions office shopping “enrollment CRM” should not mistake the free tier for Slate.
What drives the score
Price and curve are high. Enrollment, tuition, and retention are intentionally low. Messaging stays low — SMS/WhatsApp channels are not free-CRM native.
How we read the sources
Based on HubSpot CRM product and free-tools pricing pages.
Frequently asked questions
Can HubSpot replace Slate or Blackbaud Enrollment?
As a marketing and inquiry database, partially. As an admissions and tuition system, no — applications, decisions, and family contracts will live somewhere else.
Why is it on this ranking?
Because schools and course operators still evaluate HubSpot. The low enrollment and tuition scores are the educational point.
