Filevine assumes caseload scale. Smokeball assumes Word, forms, and captured time are the bottleneck.

If you run high-volume litigation and need custom matter pipelines plus court timeline tracking, Filevine’s platform is the yardstick leader — accept custom packaging. If you are a document-heavy transactional or general practice that wants AutoTime and templates, Smokeball’s Grow/Prosper+ story fits better — still quote-only on price.

Both punish the price axis for opacity. Neither is the transparent small-firm default (that is MyCase/PracticePanther). The duel is litigation scale versus document-and-time practice.
